The Legacy system: challenges, perks and rewards

Every Legacy Challenge and how many points it is worth, the three perk trees, the 16-point cap per character and the rewards track.

The Legacy system is Forever’s account-wide progression. Instead of making your character stronger forever, it rewards you for seeing more of the game: leveling different classes, mastering professions, exploring, running dungeons and raids, and fighting in PvP. You can earn everything it offers on one character, so alts are a choice, not a chore.

Track your progress with the Legacy planner.

Unlocking it

You gain access with your first Legacy Point. For most players that happens when their first character reaches level 25, but reaching 150 skill in a non-gathering primary profession or exploring the whole world map works too. Open the Legacy window from the shield icon on the menu bar or with the Y key.

Legacy Challenges

There are 65 challenges in six categories. Each one is worth one Legacy Point, and points are shared by all of your non-Hardcore characters on the Battle.net account.

CategoryPointsHow
Classes27For each of the nine classes, reach level 25, 45 and 60
Tradeskills18For each non-gathering primary profession, reach 150, 225 and 300

Raids3Defeat Onyxia, all 13 Hyjal Summit bosses and all 8 Barrow Deeps bosses

Legacy Perks

Each character spends the account’s points on perks for itself, so different characters can specialize in different things. At launch a character can spend up to 16 points. That cap keeps new players close to veterans, and 16 points are reachable on a single character: one character can earn 3 points from leveling, up to 6 from tradeskills, 12 from PvP, 2 from Adventure and 6 from dungeons and raids, 29 in all.

Professions

  • Working Overtime: a better chance to gain skill in every tradeskill, including Lockpicking.
  • Bountiful Harvest: find extra Scarce resources when mining, herbing or skinning.
  • Bartering: vendor prices are lower.
  • Performance Bonus: sometimes earn extra Merchant’s Favor from the Azeroth Commerce Authority or Durotar Supply and Logistics, the two new tradeskill factions.
  • Master Chef: cooking recipes can produce extra results.
  • Luremaster: a chance to fish up extra fish.
  • Dedicated Study: a daily cooldown that raises tradeskills faster, or grants free Elemental Essences once they are all at 300.

Adventure

  • Well Rested: a higher rested experience cap that fills faster.
  • Thrill of Adventure: regain some health and mana after every non-trivial kill.
  • High Alert: better stealth detection outside battlegrounds.
  • Field Guide: a shorter cooldown on placing camping features (normally one hour).
  • Field Medicine: a shorter Recently Bandaged debuff outside dungeons, raids and battlegrounds.
  • Talented: talent points unlock up to 5 levels earlier. The talent calculator has a switch for it.
  • Frequent Flier: cheaper, faster flights.

Resourcefulness

  • Gourmand: food buffs last longer.
  • The Quick and the Dead: run back to your corpse faster, and party and raid buffs are free right after you resurrect.
  • Reinforce: less durability loss when you die.
  • For Great Honor: more Honor from PvP.
  • Permanence: party, raid and camping buffs last longer.
  • Diplomat: more reputation.
  • Reagent Economy: class abilities stop needing purchasable reagents, and tier 1 camping features need no materials.

Legacy Rewards

Points also unlock cosmetic rewards for the whole account. Four are available at launch, with more planned for every content update:

  • Replica Ironforge Air Rifle, a toy for shootouts that stun other players and keep score.
  • Spectral Bear Cub, a pet inspired by the dwarf hunter and his bear in Forever’s cinematic.
  • Spectral Bear Tabard.
  • Reins of the Spectral Bear, a spectral mount.

Hardcore and Legacy

Hardcore is not in at launch. When it arrives, challenges earned in other rulesets will not show up in Hardcore, but challenges earned in Hardcore will count in every other ruleset. Because PvP challenges cannot be done in Hardcore, it will get 12 challenges of its own.

What to prioritize

  1. Hit level 25 on your main to unlock the system.
  2. The cheapest early points are your main reaching 45 and 60 and one crafting profession reaching 150 and 225.
  3. Spend your first points on Well Rested and Thrill of Adventure if you are still leveling alts, or Reagent Economy and Permanence for raiding.
