The Forever shaman fixes the class's oldest chores and adds the spells it was missing. A totem bar drops four totems in one cast, Totemic Recall gives back mana when you pick them up, and every tree gets a new capstone: Lava Burst, Rage of the Farseer and Riptide. Shamans are no longer Horde-only: Dwarves can be shamans, and so can the Windshaper Skyborne.

What changed from Classic
- The totem bar. Call of the Elements places up to four totems from your totem bar in one cast. Call of the Ancestors at 30 and Call of the Spirits at 40 hold two more sets, so you can keep one for raids, one for dungeons and one for leveling.
- Totemic Recall returns your totems and refunds 25% of their mana. Totemic Projection moves your active totems to a new spot without recasting them.
- Fire Nova is a spell. It detonates your active Fire totem for Fire damage to everything within 10 yards of it.
- Lava Burst caps Elemental: a big Fire nuke that deals 20% more damage when Flame Shock is on the target.
- Enhancement converts Intellect.
Mental Dexterity adds Attack Power equal to your Intellect, and
Mental Quickness adds spell power equal to 30% of it.
Maelstrom Weapon turns melee hits into faster, cheaper Lightning Bolts. - Riptide caps Restoration, and Water Shield returns mana when you are hit or land a critical heal.
Stormstrike now strikes for normal weapon damage and makes your next Lightning Bolt, Chain Lightning or Earth Shock deal 20% more damage.- Two-handed axes and maces are baseline, so the talent for them is gone.
- Removed: Elemental Mastery, Lightning Mastery, Improved Fire Totems, Storm Reach, Enhancing Totems, Improved Weapon Totems, Parry, Shield Specialization, Weapon Mastery, Healing Grace, Nature's Guidance and Totemic Mastery.
Elemental
Flame Shock into Lava Burst, Lightning Bolt in between. Elemental Alacrity shaves half a second off all three casts and Lightning Overload gives bolts a chance to fire twice.
Elemental is a caster that mixes Fire and Nature.
Lava Burst arrives at 41.
Single target:
- Flame Shock, and keep it on the target.
- Lava Burst whenever it is ready. It deals 20% more with Flame Shock up.
- Lightning Bolt as the filler.
- Chain Lightning on packs.
Elemental Alacrity takes half a second off Lightning Bolt, Chain Lightning and Lava Burst.
Lightning Overload gives bolts a 10% chance to fire a second, half-strength copy for free.
Elemental Fury doubles the critical damage bonus of all your Fire, Frost and Nature spells, and
Call of Flame adds 15% to Flame Shock, Fire Nova, Lava Burst and your Fire totems.
The Restoration points are about mana and hit.
Tidal Focus now adds 5% hit as well as cheaper heals, which makes it the Elemental shaman's hit talent. Water Shield and
Mindfulness keep you casting, and you bring Mana Tide Totem for the group.
Enhancement
Mental Dexterity and Mental Quickness turn Intellect into both Attack Power and spell power; Maelstrom Weapon procs instant Lightning Bolts.
Enhancement swings a two-hander, keeps Windfury running and spends its procs on Lightning Bolts.
Single target:
- Windfury Weapon and Lightning Shield before the pull.
- Stormstrike on cooldown.
Improved Stormstrike gives you 50% mana regeneration while casting for 15 seconds afterwards and resets Stormstrike whenever you dodge or parry. - Earth Shock right after Stormstrike for the 20% bonus, and Flame Shock whenever it falls off.
Shamanistic Focus makes Shocks 45% cheaper. - Lightning Bolt at five stacks of Maelstrom Weapon, when it is instant and free.
Rage of the Farseer for 30% attack speed over 25 seconds.
Thundering Strikes adds 5% crit to both spells and attacks, and
Flurry speeds up your swings after a crit. Intellect is a real stat for you: it becomes Attack Power through Mental Dexterity and spell power through Mental Quickness.
Spirit Weapons is worth a look: it gives you a chance to parry, and while Rockbiter Weapon is active it raises your threat by 30%. Forever's Enhancement tree has the bones of an off-tank.
Restoration
Riptide first, then Chain Heal starting on the Riptide target for 25% more. Water Shield and Mindfulness carry the mana.
Restoration heals groups with Chain Heal and tanks with Healing Wave.
Riptide arrives at 48.
How it plays:
- Riptide on the target that will take the next hit. It heals instantly and over 15 seconds.
- Chain Heal starting on the Riptide target. It heals that first target for 25% more.
- Healing Wave for tanks.
Healing Way adds 25% and
Improved Healing Wave takes half a second off the cast. - Lesser Healing Wave when you need speed.
- Nature's Swiftness for an instant emergency heal.
Water Shield restores 2% of your maximum mana whenever you are hit or land a critical heal, and Mindfulness keeps 50% of your regeneration while casting.
Restorative Totems adds 25% to Mana Spring Totem and 50% to Healing Stream Totem.
Mana Tide Totem restores mana to your group every 3 seconds for 12 seconds.
Stat priorities
Forever converts 10 Hit Rating to 1% hit and 14 Critical Strike Rating to 1% crit. Blizzard has not published raid hit caps for Forever yet; Classic's spell cap against raid bosses was 16%.
| Spec | Priority |
|---|---|
| Elemental | Hit, spell power, Critical Strike, Haste, Intellect, mana per 5 seconds |
| Enhancement | Hit, Expertise, Strength, Agility, Intellect, Critical Strike, Haste |
| Restoration | Healing power, Intellect, mana per 5 seconds, Critical Strike, Haste |
Intellect earns its place in the Enhancement list because two talents convert it. Elemental values crit highly through Elemental Fury and Lightning Overload. Compare items in the gear planner.
Leveling
Level as Enhancement with the slowest two-hander you can find. Stormstrike arrives at 34, Maelstrom Weapon from 40 and Rage of the Farseer at 45.
- Set up your totem bar at 20 and drop everything with Call of the Elements. Recall them with Totemic Recall when you move on.
- Fire Nova at 12 hits everything near your Fire totem, which makes two or three mobs manageable early.
- Use Flame Shock and Earth Shock to open and to interrupt, then melee.
Improved Ghost Wolf takes 3 seconds off Ghost Wolf's cast and lets you use it indoors.- With the Talented Legacy perk, Stormstrike comes at 29.
Races
- Orc:
Blood Fury adds 10% to both attack power and spell power for 15 seconds, and
Axe Specialization adds 1% crit to spells and attacks while you hold an axe. - Troll: Berserking adds 10% casting and attack speed for 10 seconds.
- Tauren: Endurance gives 5% health and 1% hit, and War Stomp stuns up to five enemies.
- Dwarf: new to the class. Stoneform is a great defensive, and Mace Specialization adds 1% crit while you hold a mace, which suits Restoration.
- Windshaper Skyborne: 1% haste from Wind Blessed,
Skysight for 10% movement speed, and 5% damage against Elementals from Elemental Insight.
